Datapaq TB45/46 Thermal Barrier performance

Datapaq TB45/46 Vacuum Thermal Barrier performance

Datapaq TB45 ApplicationIn most applications, the environmental conditions and process parameters in the furnace – such as temperature, duration and atmosphere – drive thermal barrier selection.

Datapaq TB45 Thermal Barriers

The Datapaq TB45 Series is limited to a maximum operating temperature of 1050°C (1922°F) and is intended for use in air or vacuum furnaces and can withstand gas quenching. Typical applications include:

  • Surveying vacuum furnaces for AMS2750 and CQi-9
The TB45 Series is well suited for to run the temperature uniformity surveys (TUS) required to ensure compliance with AMS2750 and CQi-9, among other pyrometry standards. Using a thermal barrier reduces setup time, as the thermocouples can be attached to the jig while the furnace is still in production.
  • Vacuum hardening and annealing processes
Able to withstand quench pressures up to 20 Bar, the TB45 Series is ideal for monitoring the core temperature of products that require aggressive cooling. For example, when processing medium/high carbon steels (such as EN24) in a vacuum, high-pressure quenching is needed to achieve rapid cooling.

Datapaq TB46 Thermal Barriers

The Datapaq TB46 Series has a maximum operating temperature of 1200°C (2192°F) and is intended for temperature profiling in the most demanding applications. This series represent our most advanced and robust solution. Typical applications include:

  • Surveying vacuum furnaces for AMS2750 and CQi-9 (for temperatures up to 1200°C)
The TB46 Series is well suited for the TUS required to ensure compliance with AMS2750 and CQi-9, among other pyrometry standards. The Inconel casing and high-temperature, microporous insulation enables these barriers to be used in surveys up to 1200°C and gas quenched.
  • Vacuum brazing
When peak temperature exceeds the capabilities of the TB45 Series – such as when copper alloy vacuum brazing cycles reach temperatures of 1120°C – the TB46 Series can be used.
  • Solution treatment of exotic alloys
Some alloy compositions require solution treatment or homogenizing at temperatures greater than 1050°C. For example, medical devices manufactured from CoCr alloys are typically treated at 1200°C, making the TB46 Series ideal for this application.

The experienced engineering team at Fluke Process Instruments has produced numerous thermal barriers for applications, ranging from temperatures of -40°C to 1350°C (-40°F to 2462°F). They can design a complete solution for your specific requirements. Contact us to request information about a custom Datapaq thermal profiling solution.

Radio telemetry link

Radio telemetry accessory

The Datapaq TP6 radio telemetry system utilizes high temperature radio-frequency technology to allow data transmission from the data logger in real time. As the system travels through the process, product and process temperature data can be viewed, analyzed and reported instantaneously. This technology can be applied to monitoring key thermal processes in most industrial heating applications.
